Authentication of Study Documents

Authentication is the verification of the authenticity of a Romanian study document, a mandatory step before the Prefecture apostille or legalization. University documents are authenticated at the National Centre for the Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (CNRED), and pre-university ones at the County School Inspectorate or the Bucharest Municipality School Inspectorate. Is authentication mandatory before the apostille?

For study documents, yes: the Prefecture apostilles university documents only after CNRED authentication, and pre-university ones after ISJ authentication.

How long does it take?

The maximum time for issuing the CNRED authentication is 10 business days. Up to 30 business days for complex evaluation processes or when the issuing university delays sending the authenticity confirmation.

What is the certificate of authenticity?

A document issued by the school or university confirming that the diploma was issued by it, with the series, number, duration and form of education. Request two copies if you are also going to Italy.
